It is a colorless liquid that has a high solubility in water but also dissolves in many organic solvents.

Ortho dechlorinated benzene is a benzene derivative that consists of two chlorine elements.

This compound is used as a precursor in the synthesis of agrochemicals, as well as for dissolving and working with fullerene, as an insecticide, and also in removing carbon on metal-based metal surfaces.

Human exposure data to 1 and 2-dichlorobenzene show that a concentration of 100 ppm stimulates the eyes and respiratory tract.

The Office for Occupational Safety and Health and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health have set the limit at 50 ppm for an eight-hour workday.
